Abstract

Precast concrete construction also called Industrial building system (IBS) is one of the most trending techniques in the civil construction. Unlike cast in situ construction concrete is cast into moulds off site, treated in factory-controlled environment, transported to the construction site and then assembled as per requirement. In today’s world every developer needs more production in minimum time and Precast construction fulfils this criterion. A critical concern in Precast construction is the Stability of the structure which is ensured by doing the various stability checks. This paper summarizes the current state of understanding on Precast Concrete Walls from various literatures and this review is likely to offer guidelines for similar future research. Also, this paper includes a case study of stability check for a precast concrete wall subjected to lateral wind load using European codes and how ballast load stabilizes the wall against overturning and sliding.
