Abstract

Antony and Cleopatra’s story has been a well-known story which the greatest Bard of English literature calls it as oft told but the story has been reshuffled and given a novel touch by the hands of one of the greatest literary giants of restoration era i.e. John Dryden. John Dryden although borrowed the theme from William Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra but provided his own an innovations like the missing meet between Anthony's wife Octavia and the ageless beauty, Cleopatra. John Dryden also replaced the tragic heroism with heroic tragedy showing the noble characters behave like ordinary men and women behave when emotionally charged.
